JOAN POL
Joan Pol’s paintings seem to inhabit a space between landscape and the inner world.
There is something deeply physical in his paintings; colour, matter, depth, movement and yet, beneath that intensity, lies a curious stillness. The landscape is never really unveiled. It is remembered, absorbed, dissolved, until what remains feels closer to a sensation than to a place.
His paintings emerge through layers, gestures, the occasional accidents and pauses.
Matter rises from the surface, almost sculptural at times, while colour opens passages, creating the feeling of space extending beyond the canvas.
There is rhythm in his work, but also the purest form of silence. Density meets emptiness, movement gives way to calm, and the image seems to settle somewhere between control and surrender.
What stays with me is this quiet tension.
His paintings do not reveal themselves all at once. They unfold slowly, drawing the eye further in, until landscape, memory and something more intimate begin to merge within the same space.
